Quick overview (for all out-of-state guests) Nearest major airports: Albuquerque (ABQ) — ~2.5–3 hours / ~135 miles to Taos; Santa Fe (SAF) — ~1–1.5 hours / ~70 miles. Taos also has a small regional airport with limited seasonal service. Most guests fly into Albuquerque or Santa Fe and rent a car; driving is the easiest way to get around Taos. Private shuttles and car services run seasonally from ABQ and SAF
Travel Note
By air: Fly from Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) to Albuquerque (ABQ) for the most options; some itineraries may connect. From ABQ it’s a scenic 2.5–3 hour drive to Taos. Santa Fe (SAF) is another option with fewer flights and about 1–1.5 hours to Taos. By car: Driving Austin → Taos is about 640 miles and typically takes ~10–11 hours (depending on route and stops). Common route: I‑35 N to US‑84/W → US‑60 W → US‑285 N into New Mexico, then NM‑68 N into Taos. Plan for stops and consider breaking the trip into two days. Ground transport & rentals Car rental: Recommended for flexibility; most major rental companies available at ABQ and SAF. Shuttles & private cars: Shared shuttles and private transfers run seasonally from ABQ/SAF — reserve in advance. Rideshares/taxis are limited once in Taos. A car is strongly recommended for venue access and sightseeing; parking is usually available.
