Emily and Nick met one cold winter day in the U.P. at Northern Michigan University in 2022. Specifically, they met in wind ensemble where Nick was playing saxophone and Emily was playing oboe. Since Emily had just transferred to NMU to pursue degrees in criminal justice and forensic anthropology, she did not know anyone yet. Nick had already been there for a semester as a music major, and had a very outgoing personality. Nick came up to her before class and introduced himself along with some of his friends. She didn't think much of this encounter at the time, and continued throughout her day. Late at night, she received a message on instagram from Nick saying how nice it was to meet her and inviting her to practice. From then on they began to hang out, practicing late and talking for hours. It had felt like they had known each other forever. The last few years together have been the best years of their lives.
