Neal and Emily met through mutual friends in the summer of 2015 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After crossing paths a few times, Neal found the courage to ask Emily out for tacos and beers. They found that they had so much in common that a quick bite turned into hours of conversation. Over the next few weeks, Neal and Emily spent their time cooking together, exploring the city, and getting to know each other. Emily even shared her famous apple pie recipe with him. Just as things were starting to get serious, Emily was offered a job in California. It was a position she had been working toward for years, and an offer she couldn't turn down. Neal fully supported Emily's decisions but knew that he couldn't let her go, so they decided to try a long-distance relationship. In two short weeks, Emily was on her way, driving cross-country. Emily kept an eye on the clock and called Neal every day at 5:00pm, right when he got out of work. For six months, the two didn't go a day without talking to each other and quickly realized that they didn't want to be apart any longer. Neal found work in California and joined Emily in March 2016. Soon after, the two became foster fails and adopted Finnegan, a rescue dog from Mexico, into their family. Neal, Emily, and Finnegan explored California and the West Coast for 4 1/2 years before deciding that they missed home and wanted to move back to Massachusetts. With another ill-timed, but very welcome job offer for Emily, they drove across the country in the middle of COVID-19. Since April of 2020, Neal, Emily, and Finnegan have been living in Massachusetts where they just recently purchased their first home.

Neal, Emily, and Finnegan planned a weekend getaway to Bethel, Maine in November of 2020. The three took a morning hike, where at the top of the mountain, Neal knelt down and asked Emily to marry him in front of the only witness they needed--Finn.
