Athens' annual summer music festival will be happening the weekend of our wedding. Certain streets downtown, particularly those near the 40 Watt Club, will be blocked off. While downtown is best navigated by foot, most of it will still be accessible by car. There will be a main-stage outdoors with music throughout the day, Friday - Sunday. Many bars turn into venues too, so you could be turned away if you do not have an AthFest pass.
For those who love a good hike, Sandy Creek Nature Center (and nearby Sandy Creek Park) has some of the best sites in Athens and is an important part of the Kerce family legacy. The Education and Visitor Center at the nature center includes live reptiles, amphibians, marine and freshwater aquariums, interactive natural history exhibits, and a planetarium. If you go to the park, make sure you stop by the Bobby Kerce memorial garden to the right of the guest-check in area. A great arts complex at the edge of downtown, take a stroll through the galleries to see some exciting shows.
