New River Gorge National Park & Preserve
Located in our favorite town in West Virginia—Fayetteville—this national park is just about an hour from Charleston and totally worth the trip. Expect epic views, great hiking, and the iconic New River Gorge Bridge. September is prime whitewater rafting season, so if you're up for an adventure, you can book a guided trip on the New River’s Class III–IV rapids. Afterwards, grab lunch at Secret Sandwich Society—it’s one of our favorite spots in town!

Located in a historic train station, Capitol Market is a cool spot with local art, unique shops, and delicious food.

Summersville Lake
Known for its clear water and dramatic cliffs, Summersville Lake is a favorite for swimming, kayaking, cliff jumping, and even free solo rock climbing right over the water. Located about an hour and a half from Charleston.
