Monica and I grew up in the same town, went to the same high school and tiptoed around each other’s life for longer than we knew. Our paths did not cross until we both worked at the same H-E-B in Kyle. Like many love stories, we started hanging out outside of work and over time we both saw in each other just what our hearts had been longing to find... genuine and true love. From the beginning, I knew what we had was special. Monica was patient and accepting, and she openly embraced the other half of my heart, my son (now our son) Zane. We’ve spent the last couple of years truly enjoying each other. Going to any concert we could possibly make it to, traveling, and whole heartedly loving each other. We can’t wait to share our special day with our closest family and friends showing them just how big our love truly is.
I was told during the week that we would be going to a private screening for a movie that a friend had invited us to. I agreed because if you know me, you know the movies are one of my favorite places to be. Saturday morning came and the movie was set to start at 11. So there we were, Zane in tow on our way to the movie. When we arrived Monica got the tickets, we got a snack and headed to the last door on the right. When we walked into the theater it was empty! I didn’t think much of it as we often see movies later than their release date and sometimes there are not many people. The movie started with Flash back cinema previews just like with every movie and then the screen turned black. A song started playing, a screen shot of a text message between us shows and then a picture of us.. and another.. and another! In shock and disbelief, I immediately burst into tears. I could feel my heart racing and through tears and smiles I asked “what is this!?” More pictures and videos of Monica, Zane, and I come onto the screen, one precious memory after another. All I could do was just smile and cry. Zane still confused turned around and noticed all our closest family members sitting quietly behind. Through the tears and the nerves, right in the middle of the video, Monica stood up and asked me to marry her. Although the exact words aren’t clear to both of us because let’s be real, we were both emotional messes, the only words I could get out was “yes”.. yes I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with the person who truly understands me, loves me and cares for Zane and I unconditionally. She placed on my left ring finger the most beautiful ring selected perfectly and precisely for me. The video ended with the remix “Let’s get married” by Jagged Edge that showed Zane and I’s best dance skills. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal at my favorite spot, Monica truly did an amazing job!!!
