We met at our school. We were in the same classroom, and Emily had just started. We introduced ourselves and we sparked a friendship, which over time, has developed into way more than we ever expected.
In July 2016, we mutually agreed that we were ready for something more than a friendship. We both thought we knew what love was, however we really had no clue what it was or consisted of. We thought it was saying “I Love You” back and forth. That ultimately led to the demise of our relationship and our friendship for awhile, not truly knowing how to love romantically.
We decided to end our friendship in October 2016. We were bitter towards each other for a long time after we parted ways, but that changed in Matthew’s freshman year of high school.
Matthew started his freshman year. Emily was in her sophomore year. We remember that feeling of “oh crap” when we locked eyes that first day: we were in the same class. Normally sophomores don’t have the same teacher as the freshman students do, so it was definitely a surprise. Almost like fate. We started talking, Emily actually initiated the conversation and apologized for the way things had ended. Matthew forgived her, he had lost his resentment towards her awhile ago. She didn’t apologize for so long in fear that he would be angry still, but it was evident he wasn’t anymore. And so, our friendship reignited.
As soon as Matthew saw Emily, he knew. “I love her still.” However, Emily did not feel the same way, and was just trying to work on herself and fix her toxic attitude when it came to relationships. She wasn’t ready emotionally for a relationship.
After breaking up with her then boyfriend, Emily realized why she wasn’t happy in any of her relationships after Matthew; they weren’t exactly like him. She was looking for someone to replace Matthew, but had unsuccessfully done so. She knew that she needed to tell Matthew how she felt. In fact, around the beginning of May 2018, Emily told her friend that she knew exactly who she was going to marry someday. That person was Matthew. The only problem; Matthew was in a relationship now. Before Emily had her realization, she couldn’t understand why she was so jealous. Afterwards, it all made sense.
In May 2018, Emily told Matthew how she felt. Unfortunately, Emily accidently accepted her ex’s dating request. She knew she didn’t actually love him, so she broke it off. It wasn’t fair to him. On May 13th, 2018 we made it official. We were going to try dating each other again. Emily admits, she had doubts. When they first started dating again, she didn’t know if she actually loved him. However, in about a month’s time she realized she did indeed love him.
On December 30th, 2018 around 11:45 PM we got into a huge arguement. As soon as the clock hit 12:00 AM , Matthew asked Emily for the ring he had given her as a gift back. She threw it at him. He got down on one knee, and asked “Will you marry me?” Emily was dumbfounded. She cried and laughed happily and accepted. We decided to keep our engagement a secret from family until we turn 18.
We both made it to our longest relationship yet on May 13, 2019 when we hit the one year mark.
