"The Lumberyard" which is in fact, not a functioning lumberyard, serves as the Unofficial Gatekeeper to Downtown Mill Valley, and is a great place to spend an afternoon or stop off before you check out Downtown Mill Valley! Enter The Lumberyard over a wooden bridge canopied by enormous Redwoods, into an open air market where fresh, farm to fork and locally owned eateries reside including Watershed, Flour Craft & others. From craft cocktails and small-batch brews, to plant-based anything, artisan pastries and craft coffee; there is sense of entrepreneurship with a super chill, friendly atmosphere. Open seating, fire-pits, and shaded booths. You might see local artists painting dog portraits, families hanging playing horse-shoes, friends playing cards; it's a great spot for everyone. Plenty of parking for locals driving and visitors walking! An 8 Min walk from 'Mill Valley Inn'.
Maybe we're biased (because we got engaged here) but we think something everyone should do once in their lives is take a drive or take a walk in the Marin Headlands! Our favorite thing to do is to drive up Conzelman Road in Battery Spencer, to the Golden Gate Bridge lookout. If you continue on you will find a parking lot and from there meander down and walk through the Point Bonita Lighthouse!
At the bottom of 4th and Alexander is a "Secret Beach", down about 25 wooden steps, but we didn't tell you that. You can also visit Schoonmaker Beach, where we spent a ton of time when we lived in Sausalito! There is a Houseboat community there full of artists and musicians who live on the water. Shel Silverstein's House Boat, 'The Evil Eye of the Sea' sits amongst them with poems hidden in the walls. True Story. Next up is Bar Bocce where you can sit outside like most places in Marin County and eat pizza, play games and drink your drinks on the sand. If you don't feel like pizza go next door to our favorite place 'the Joinery'. If you walk downtown you can watch the sea otters plopping down on the boardwalk, dolphins drift in and out of the air (yes, really.) If you want to get off the beaten path, then go to Caledonia Street. Things are less hectic there and food is less pricey. Don't miss Sausalito during the weekend. Or our wedding.
A popular attraction is visiting nearby Angel Island and exploring by electric bike/scooter! Accessible by the Angel Island Ferry which is located in Tiburon, and a few minutes' walk from the 'Waters Edge Hotel as well as by Lyft from Sausalito, Mill Valley, San Rafael and Larkspur (Tiburon is only 10 miles from the furthest point which is Sausalito.) If you plan on going to Angel Island you can plan explore Tiburon's cobblestoned streets, adorable shops and views of Belvedere Island, Mt. Tam, and Angel Island before or after.
This is truly a magical day-trip and fun fact: we spend our second date trekking around Point Reyes and visiting each of the following places. We didn't have a tour guide, but you can opt to if you'd like. Otherwise you can use the suggestions below and wing it! If you are planning an extended stay you will want to visit Point Reyes and one way to do that is to use Food & Farm Tours. This company will plan your day as you stop at The Hog Island Oyster Company's shoreline and sit in the salty air to enjoy oysters bbq'd, raw, with wine, with butter - any way you want! Food & Farm Tours offers premier tours of West Marin & ensures you get the experience you crave (literally). Next is Cowgirl Creamery which is all cheese, all the time; it is ALL cheese.. very "Us". Then tour a small, regenerative & organic farm and stop at Bovine Bakery for pastries, pies, muffins and scones. Additional Info: https://whimsysoul.com/point-reyes-day-trip/
Across the street from the Room Block at 'Courtyard Marriot Larkspur Landing' is the 'Marin Country Mart'! There are sweeping views of Mt. Tamalpais & it has 25 shopping retailers from Intermix, The RealReal, Hudson Grace, Top Shop, Eli & so much more! Local eateries OG to Marin like Rustic Bakery, Hog Island Oyster Co., Farm Shop & Johnny Doughnuts all have brick & mortars here. There is also Starbucks, Pressed Juice, Shake Shack, Soul Cycle, the Trading Post & a very cool "old-timey" photo booth tucked away next to outdoor tables to hang out and enjoy the Marin weather. The Ferry is across the street, ( & your hotel too if you are staying at the 'Courtyard Marriot Larkspur Landing'). The Marin Airport Shuttle Bus stops here for SFO pick up/drop & goes to Sausalito, Mill Valley, San Rafael too & it's centrally located for Lyfts if you are planning to stop off & visit here.
