Emily’s Aunt Annie, Uncle Brad, and cousin Elizabeth reside on Hilton Head Island. Emily has been visiting the island and its surrounding areas almost her entire life for vacations. The Low Country holds a very special place in her heart. In 2020, she shared this affinity with Landon during their first trip to the island. Moreover, there’s no other place on the planet where you can savor the most delectable cuisine you’ll ever experience than at her family’s restaurants.
Savanah/Hilton Head International Airport is the best choice. Airport code SAV. You will need to rent a car to drive to the island. It takes about an hour to get from the airport to Hilton Head. There is a small airport on the island but there are no direct commercial flights at this time.
If you are coming by air, we recommend renting a car. There will be a few instances where transportation will be provided (to the ceremony, to and from the reception) but for the most part, you’ll want a vehicle to get you around the island. The airport in Savanah has all the major car rental companies right on site.
Ride Share companies do operate in the area but they are sparse and drivers are not always readily available. Please do not rely on these services as your sole means of transportation.
You can drive to Hilton Head Island. The drive from the Detroit area takes about 14 hours and we’ve done it several times. If there are a few people to share the diving it’s not bad at all. Emily made the trip as a driver in a caravan of family members just a month or so after getting her drivers license. We will be driving down for the wedding. If you wish to caravan with us, let us know sooner than later.
We are renting a home in the Sandcastles By The Sea neighborhood. The rental property is located on Sandcastle Court. There are several lovely homes in the neighborhood that are available to rent. They are all quite large and perfect for sharing. Most of our immediate family will be staying in the neighborhood, we would love for you to be our neighbor too.
Our favorite neighborhood is Sea Pines Plantation. We particularly love the areas near Harbor Town and South Beach. They also enjoy The Sandcastles By The Sea neighborhood near Folly Field Beach.
There is not a block of hotel rooms reserved for guests. There are several hotels to choose from on the island. From your average chain establishments to fancier resorts. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you pick.
Why yes, there is a dress code. It is GREEN TIE OPTIONAL. We would love our guests to shine in their most elegant attire with an emphasis on the color GREEN. Any shade is perfect.
The wedding ceremony will be held on a lawn. The area is made of sandy grass and is quite squishy. We recommend you keep this in mind when picking footwear and avoid spikey high-heals.
The weather on Hilton Head Island during November can be very lovely. During the day it tends to hover around the low 70s. In the evenings, with the breeze coming off the ocean, it can get quite chilly. Please plan you wardrobe accordingly. The entire wedding ceremony and reception is outside.
Don’t feel obligated to buy a new green suit. We suggest perhaps a green tie or pocket square, maybe even a green shirt. Have fun with green!
