We met in College playing Softball. We were on opposite teams- Arch Rivals to be exact. We both had a crush on each other since we were 19 years old. But, it was never the right time in either of our lives to date each other. So, we continued to continuously flirt for almost 10 years! One night in college Emily bought me (Kaci) a shot of Tequila, that night we exchanged numbers and from there on we were "Friends". Years later when we were both actually single, we tried to date - it went terrible. We remained "Friends" for another year until I (Kaci) was ready to finally call Emily mine. So, a few heartbreaks later here we are- getting married to our each other and we haven't looked back since.
Emily had planned a weekend out East on Long Island to visit her sister Diane. We were going wine tasting for Diane's wedding that upcoming fall. As the date got closer I started asking a lot of questions (what wineries, times, plans etc...) all that annoying stuff. Emily was starting to sweat, she seemed very on edge that morning- we go out East to our first winery (Kontokosta Winery) and we meet Diane and Chris there and they wanted to go outside and show me the view (which is amazing!) I walked up to see the view and watched Diane slowly back pedal away from us and Emily started her speech- all I remember is "we aren't here for a wine tasting"- from there I cried and said YES and Chris caught everything on Camera- best camera man ever- after that she had a few more surprises for me. My family was at a Brewery (Greenport Harbor Brewery) – this was actually the first time both sides ever met - which went great- after that Emily showed me an Airbnb she rented us for the night, the day, evening and night couldn't have been more perfect. The ring can't be more perfect either.
We knew we always wanted a rustic, farm like venue. We wanted something equal distance for both sides of our families too. Perona is the one and only place we went on a tour for! My parents came with us that morning, it was very rainy and kind of cold so we were nervous we wouldn't be able to see the whole property. When we pulled up the rain stopped and the sun came out - first good sign- we went on a tour and looked at the Barn. The Venue itself is family owned and sits on over 45 acres of land. After that we got a tour of some parts of the land and as we were driving in the golf cart we noticed a softball field- I kid you not- and we asked about it. The family use to host a game each year for the employees, the land is big enough where they just made their own field - Second sign- I believe that moment closed the deal for a lot of us. After that we sat and discussed our options, Emily and I consider ourselves easy going people and we looked at each other and said everything aligned today, the weather, the venue tour, that softball field and they had a date in October still open that we liked. That moment we just went for it and we can't wait for everyone to see it!
