It all started with an innocent game of rock, paper, scissors. Emily and Justin met at the NIRSA Club Sports Institute representing their respective Club Sports programs, Clemson and ECU. The conference started with a Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament as a way to introduce attendees to one another. Justin spotted Emily because she was the only female attendee over 6' tall, Emily spotted Justin because he was wearing a bright, pink suit jacket. After brief introductions, Justin stated he always shot rock. Emily, not falling for his reverse psychology, shot paper. Emily and Justin finished out the tournament (Emily won, naturally) and continued to chat throughout the conference. After returning to their homes, Justin sent Emily a postcard and the rest is history...
Fast forward two years later, Justin was a man of his word and shot rock. Justin hosted a party every year at the start of the summer called the "Survivor Party" (think beer olympics but with liquor). Unbeknownst to Emily, Justin told all 55 invitees that the party served a dual purpose and that he would be proposing at the start of the night. In typical Greenville, NC fashion, three hours before the party started a torrential downpour unleashed several inches of rain turning the backyard into a small lake. Justin was determined to make sure everything was perfect, going as far as to dig trenches and squeegee the yard (in the pouring rain, thirty minutes before the party was supposed to start) in an effort to help dry it out. It worked, kinda. In an effort to help everyone meet each other, Justin started the party by announcing the first game: a rock, paper, scissors tournament (see where this is going). He asked Emily to help him demo and when it came time to play, Justin switched it up to "Rock, paper, scissors, will you marry me?" and dropped to one knee.
