JP and Emily met in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2024. Emily had just started graduate school in Speech-Language Pathology at Samford University, and JP was deep into his Radiology residency. Their first date was at a cozy sushi restaurant in downtown Birmingham: something small, a little ordinary, and entirely life-changing (proof that good sushi can, in fact, change your life.) Not long into their relationship, Emily decided to move back to Huntsville for a clinical rotation. It would have been easy, then, for their story to become a brief and pleasant chapter. Instead, they chose to keep turning the pages. What followed were two years of “medium distance” (which mostly meant becoming very familiar with the drive to Cullman), consisting of weekends that felt too short and goodbyes that never quite got easier. They filled the margins of that time with unforgettable trips to New York City, Destin, and Miami, collecting memories they will cherish forever. In March 2025, they traveled to Zion National Park, where the beauty and vastness of the mountains reminded them of a love far bigger than themselves- the kind God has been writing into the world long before we knew how to name it. There, at the top of a mountain, JP got down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him. Now, JP and Emily have begun a new chapter in Durham, North Carolina, where JP is completing his fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Duke University, and Emily is working with children as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Their lives are full in the best way: rooted in purpose, shared in love, and still unfolding. They are deeply grateful for the path that brought them here and are so excited to celebrate the beginning of their marriage with you.
