Long time friends…We met in high school choir. Our voice teacher was playing match maker behind the scenes and paired us together for a duet to the song Lion Heart by Of Monsters and Men. We decided to meet up outside of school, so I hopped in my car and followed Joshua to his house (he longboarded over to show me the way). While heading towards his house we came to a corner that had so much street sediment that it was like a little beach, which his longboard didn’t agree with. The board came out from under him, and from my perspective behind my car’s dashboard, he just disappeared in a cartoony fashion. He hopped up (most likely embarrassed) exclaiming that he was okay! I offered him to ride along in my car, but he insisted on continuing riding. After arriving at his house and figuring out how we wanted to tackle the duet. His family offered an extra ticket to a Round Rock Express game (his mother was excited for her son and gave up her ticket so that I could join, to which I am so thankful for). We ended up chatting through the entire game, instantly becoming friends. Our duet unfortunately didn’t make the cut, but that entire summer we slowly fell for each other. First becoming best friends and slowly something more. Like the scene form While You Were Sleeping, where Bill Pullman is talking to Sandra Bullock about how you know when someone is interested in you they “lean” towards the other, Joshua’s mother knew I was interested because I always leaned towards him. Since that August we have been together for twelve years, and with all our ups and downs, we have continued to grow together. From best friends to significant others, and finally to the loving partnership we have now. We hope to continue to nurture each other, our love and our dreams.
