July 2025: After 9 days, it was finally our last full day in Croatia. The day before, we went on a ferry to a nearby island, Hvar. Little did we know, the ferry ride back to Split was going to be the worst ride of our lives. The waves were so big, the ferry was getting airtime. Emily’s motion sickness kicked in and she was not feeling well at all. I had told Emily that the next day, we had a tour for a national park at 8am. She didn’t know this “tour” was the time I booked with the photographers for her proposal. She told me to cancel the tour, that she was not feeling good. She asked me why I kept booking tours so early lol. I persuade her to wait till the morning to see if she feels better, plus I told her the “tour” was expensive and non-refundable. Well, morning came and she immediately tells me to cancel the tour. Said she did not feel good and wanted to keep sleeping. Oh no. After some persuasion, we get ready and get into the uber to the “pickup spot”. When we get there, Emily asks me, “Why is no one else here? Why do you keep booking tours so early??”. I tell her that the tour is actually at 8:15am and I told her 8am so we wouldn’t be late. She was now even more mad lol On the jetty in the distance, I see the photographers I hired to shoot the engagement, pretending to be nature photographers. A mere 50 yards away from glory. I ask Emily, “Do you want to take a running video on the jetty for my vlog while we wait?” Running videos are typical in my vlogs, so I knew it wouldn’t be suspicious. “No.” We stand in silence for a few minutes. At this point, I’m thinking this girl does not want to get engaged. I’m about to reschedule this bs, jokingly of course. In the background, the golden glow of the sunrise on the clear, blue water beach and the cliffs, remind me how close I am. Out of no where, Emily says, “Fine, we can go.” “Hallelujah”, I repeat in my head. We make our way to the end of the jetty, right next to the photographers who are still pretending to shoot the beach and the mountains. I set up my camera for the “running video”. Emily, still feeling sick and nauseous, still not suspicious. As we start running, I start crying. The photographers pointed towards us and this was when Emily finally realized what was happening. As the tears fell down, I got on one knee and completely forgot the speech I had prepared. But it didn’t matter, the deed was done. Ya boi and ya gurl are engaged.
