In March of 2010, Emily joined friends at Monrovia's Golden Beach to wind down after a long week of work in Liberia. Duza showed up with Emily's friends as the "new guy in town" and the two hit it off discussing public health, foreign policy and life in DC and Abuja. Without typical amenities (such as city power or running water), Duza and Emily got to know each other's resiliency and creativity. A few weeks after their first conversation, Emily invited Duza on a road trip to Kpatawee Waterfalls with her Liberian friends -- the sparks began, and Emily & Duza quickly became the talk of the (small, gossip-loving) town. Will they or won't they? Soon thereafter, "Duzily" was coined and their adventure together began. Emily and Duza spent the next three years exploring Liberia together. They filled their days helping rebuild Liberia's health system, their nights at potlucks and pool parties, and their weekends adventuring across the wild terrain in Duza's ancient 4-Runner, the "Green Monstah." Emily and Duza made fabulous, lifelong friends in Liberia with whom they enjoyed camping on the beach under the stars or dancing until morning. These years in Liberia were the foundation of friendship, public service and adventure that cemented the values and laughter that have kept Emily and Duza grounded and committed for the last eight years, whether near or far. Seven years after that first conversation on Golden Beach, Duza got down on one knee -- on a sandy beach across the world -- to ask a very important question!
