We arrived in Oahu within weeks of each other (Dale beat me by two weeks). I came to stay with my folks for a short while after freshman year, and Dale was stationed here with the Marines. Neither of us knew each other before we met, but we both had a strong reaction to meeting each other. When Dale walked in and saw me off to the side, he did a double take that he hoped I didn't notice. When I first saw Dale, he was walking in with a group of his buddies. I immediately texted my friends, ‘Oh my goodness the hottest Marine just walked in!!’ Both of us arrived on the island with no intention of dating, and both walked away from seeing each other, very much wanting to talk. In the following weeks we began talking very seriously to see if we are compatible. Dale asked my Dad for permission to date me and upon recieving permission we continued to take purposeful steps to getting to know each other. I am happy to say I am marrying a dapper gentleman who matches my goofy side, God help our poor kids, who regularly builds me up and points me to Christ when I forget to look. P.S. Dale decided to be a mysterious goofball, so I had no idea he liked me until he gave me his number!
There's plenty of pretty faces out there. Emily's is certainly one of them, and her looks certainly caught my eye when I first saw her. What caught my heart though, was her faith. When I first managed to snag a seat near Em, she was talking to some of the other Homeport attendees (who would soon become our main friend group, on Oahu). She was telling them about her college (Montana Bible College), and about the Biblical Counseling degree she was pursuing. It was the passionate way that Emily described her desire to help people find healing in God's word, that got me truly interested in her. She practically bubbled with joy, as she described the good work the Lord had done in her life, and how she wanted to share His love and peace with others. It was clear that she truly had a servant's heart. Once we started dating, we made it a point to worship, pray, and study God's word as a couple. Each of us knew that our faith walk is the most important thing in our lives. As such, we knew that we could only walk together, as long as we were both walking in faith towards our Savior. Some central goals of our marriage are to pursue faith in our Lord together, to honor Him in our relationship, to bring others to Him, and to raise our children (if we are blessed with any) to join us in loving and serving our Creator and the people he created. We both are imperfect sinners, saved by the grace of a loving God. It is our calling to spread the Good News that "God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16, CSB).
