In 2023, Emily legally changed her last name to Oaks to represent strength, resilience, and weathering harsh storms. We came up with this last name together and we had talked about both eventually having Oaks as our last name in the future. Bearett’s old full name (Carl David Weis, Jr.), carried a lot of past trauma and connection that he has wanted to shed for a long time. With the kids getting older and more mature, the event of Bearett’s father’s death last year, and our marriage, he has made the move to change his full legal name to Bearett Hayden Oaks, representing strength, bravery, and connecting his middle name to his son’s first name. We are so excited for this new chapter in our lives and having names that we claim as our own. We thank our friends and family for supporting us in this change.
