It’s a modern day and traditional story all in one. Emily received a friend request from a random Armenian guy (at the time) who speaks Spanish. Little did Emily know, there was a backstory. Thankfully a few days later she accepted the friend request and Aram messages her. In his second message to Emily he explains that he had received Emily’s contact information from his mom who had met Emily’s aunt Laura in Frankfurt, Germany. Emily was a bit confused because Emily has an aunt Laura in Yerevan, Armenia and another aunt Laura in Glendale, California. For a while, Emily was convinced Aram had added the wrong girl. But then it dawned on Emily, she vaguely remembered that her aunt Laura that is from Yerevan was flying back to Armenia from the USA around that period, so the idea came that perhaps during her transit in Frankfurt, she had met Aram’s mom. This idea was very crazy to think, but she had to confirm, so she contacted her cousin in Armenia, Lada to ask when did Laura land and where was her layover. She confirmed it, “she had a layover in Germany, Frankfurt I believe and she arrived a few days ago. Why?” Emily began laughing and explained and she said “yeah this is something mom would do, she was determined to find you a husband.” Emily calls her aunt Laura and asks directly “what did you do?” She began to laugh and said, “well Emily, I was simply sitting at my gate when this woman approached me and asked if I’m Armenian, I said yes. She said she is alone and wants to go to the duty free shop and if I could watch her bags for her and I agreed.” (The trust level is out of this world). After coming back from shopping, they got to talking, they had seven hours to talk, so she started to share about her life and her three kids, all who aren’t married, but the oldest in particular, Aram, 32, who wants to be with a traditional Armenian girl, but they don’t seem to exist. Aram’s mom directly asked if Laura has a daughter, she said she has one and is married with two kids. But then she said, but I do have a niece named Emily, who is like a daughter to me. Aram’s mom asked to see Emily and got very happy. She asked if she could give her son Emily’s Facebook so he could contact her, Laura agreed. After it was established that Aram indeed added the correct Emily, they began to speak. It turned out Aram resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina and his mother, Julieta was flying to Armenia for the first time in six years to see her relatives in Gyumri. Talk about perfect timing. From that moment on began the start of endless texting, phone calls, and video calls. A few weeks later, Aram had asked for Emily’s father, Souren, permission to marry Emily, Souren agreed.
With difficulty of Aram to receive a visa to enter America, they decided to meet in Cancun, Mexico for the first time and see if what they had been feeling was real. On December 21st, 2023 Emily, Emily’s mom (Rina), and Emily’s brother (Eddie) met Aram for the first time and on December 24th, 2023, Aram met Souren for the first time and again, asked for his blessing to marry Emily. Souren agreed, of course. Emily’s family made reservations at a restaurant Emily had been wanting to go to called Ilios and everyone that day was behaving very weird, to some extent, Emily was beginning to understand that most likely Aram is planning to propose to Emily. Her instinct was correct. While we were all sitting at our table, the workers came up behind us with a big bouquet of red roses and a card and before Emily could process what was going on, Aram was down on one knee with a ring (that he made by himself) in his hand. The entire restaurant began to clap and cheer and Emily said “yes!”
