We met in the dorms at Kansas State University. I was moving in and somehow Alex (who had already moved in) ended up in the elevators with my dad and I three times! After the third time, my dad was the first to introduce himself where they bonded over both being from southeast Kansas. It wasn't until the ice cream social that Friday night that Alex and I finally spoke to each other. This was where our friendship started and it would take 4 months and an 8 hour road trip to Dallas later for Alex to realize I was perfect for him. Four and a half years after meeting in Marlatt Hall we will be married!
We all have our quirks, Alex cannot keep secrets and I hate surprises. Alex couldn't help but tell me he bought the engagement ring we were looking at just weeks before. We had planned to get engaged after graduation... you can tell by the date of our engagement (October 28th), someone couldn't wait that long. With the help of my best friend Sarah, I was distracted for a few hours while Alex was able to decorate our house with rose petals and candles. But the most precious thing was that he utilized our adorable mini Aussie, Josie, to surprise me when I got home. She had a note around her neck that said "Dad has a question." The rose petals lead out to the backyard where Alex was down on one knee. Just what I wanted in a proposal. Sweet, romantic and just our little family of three, which has now grown to four with our poodle mix, Tucker!
