We met how most modern couples meet nowadays: on a dating app (Bumble to be exact). The only difference was...it was March 2020. For the first two months our dates consisted of FaceTiming over homemade coffee, watching Netflix together virtually, and texting daily. It wasn't until May 9th 2020, when the NC governor lifted the stay at home order, that we finally met in person.
We drove to Lake Norman from Raleigh on the Saturday before Memorial Day. Once we arrived, Alex suggested, "Want to watch the sunset from the top of the boat dock tonight?" ~gasp~ I immediately got nervous, wondering if he had something planned. Just 2 years prior, we had said I Love You for the first time to each other on top of the same boat dock. Wouldn't it be special to add a second memory to this special place... Everyone else decides to go on a boat ride that evening, so we have the dock to ourselves. It is a gorgeous sunset. We discuss our relationship, the wild ride COVID had taken us on, and how grateful we are to have and love one another. Before I know it, he is on one knee. "Will you-" "YES!!" I don't think I even let him get the words out. My mom starts cheering from the house (she and my grandma had been covertly watching from a window). We are greeted with champagne, hugs, and commemorative napkins.
