I originally planned to ask Emily to marry me on her birthday in February. I had this whole plan to fashion to go home and a iron things out over Christmas, but my vacation was canceled due to work. I posited the idea that maybe we could meet up in Las Vegas, with me flying down quickly during my few days off and meeting her there. Emily and I had been separated for almost two weeks and I decided that now was the only time I could possibly ask her to marry me and I hatched my plan. Emily and I are avid climbers and have recently started climbing 1000 foot routes all across the US using our newfound skills. One of the most famous routes in Vegas is a route called Olive Oil. The route is a complete trope, where climbers all pretend to propose to one another in the classic arch at the top looking at rainbow wall. Emily and I jokingly had told each other that we really needed to take a fake proposal picture at the top to continue the trope. After reaching the top I conned the party in front of us into sticking around to take a picture and proceeded with the "fake" proposal. Little did Emily know, but I had smuggled a diamond ring to the top of the route in my patented costco wool sock carrying pouch. When I got down on one knee Emily put her hands to her mouth in mock surprise, then I pulled out the ring and surprised her for real. Obviously she said yes and we walked down to the bottom of the mountain newly engaged.
