Emily was living in Des Moines, IA but was headed up to Minneapolis for the weekend to meet some high school friends. However, only one friend was able to come. Emily and her friend, Caitlin, decided to go out for some drinks at the nearest bar which was called "The Loop." It was extremely crowded but Emily and Caitlin finally found a spot to sit. A little while later, two guys sat down at the stools beside them. Emily started a conversation with the guy next to her whose name was Mike. Emily and Mike chatted intermittently for a little while, but eventually Mike and the friend who was with him got up and looked like they were about to leave. Instead of walking out, Mike's friend, Nate, sat down next to Emily and started a conversation. The rest is history!
Emily and Nate planned to go to Duluth for Memorial Day and stay in a B&B. They had about an hour to waste before they could check-in so they decided to drive the scenic road along the North Shore of Lake Superior. There were so many places along the way to pull over and take in the scenery and take pictures, but Emily eventually picked a spot with a long beach. They walked for a ways before Nate said he wanted to go back to the car to get his jacket because it was cold by the water. With jackets on, they both walked further down the beach and took in the scenery for awhile. Emily turned back towards the car, but Nate grabbed her arm and spun her around and got down on one knee in the sand. Nate pulled out the most beautiful ring Emily had ever seen and asked her if she would do the honor of marrying him. Emily said "yes!" in a heartbeat.
