Our Story

Emory and Emily first met in AP Psychology with Mr. Mason, but did not start dating until the internet brought them back together two years later. The two began dating in February 2016 while Emily had just started her Freshman year at Appalachian State and Emory was in his Sophomore year at NC State, and they haven’t looked back since. They spent their college years driving the 187 miles between Raleigh and Boone as often as they could to spend the weekend going to football games, Emily’s sorority events, and any excuse to see one another even if it was only for 24 hours. During holiday and summer breaks, the two loved spending time with each other’s families and being in the city together that they both called home. In fact, very early on Emily became indoctrinated into Emory’s family with their family football games. After she intercepted a pass, Emory’s family knew she was the one. Upon graduating from college, their long distance relationship became much more serious as Emory moved to Del Rio, Texas to begin pilot training for the Air Force. Emily began working full time in Charlotte and enjoyed the time spent around family, especially since her other half was now 1,200 miles away. Even if it was only a couple of days, Emily would visit Emory in Texas as often as she could and they would pick back up right where they left off. Emory graduated and received his wings in September 2020, shortly after learning that Del Rio would remain his home for the next few years while he served as an instructor pilot in the T-38C. In February 2021 on their 5 year anniversary, Emory proposed in Austin, TX. While Emily was surprised by Emory’s beautiful proposal, they both were caught off guard by the bitter cold. The next day was the start of the historic Texas winter storm, which left them without power for most of the next week. Not that they needed it, but the storm gives Emory and Emily another reason that they will never forget their first week as a newly engaged couple. On the evening of July 3rd, 2021, Emory and Emily were surrounded by their immediate families as they officially became husband and wife. The beautiful Gaskin backyard and uncharacteristically cool July weather combined to give the newlyweds the best day of their lives. Just two days later with Emily’s car packed to the brim, they began their journey back to Texas to begin their lives as one. Today, Emory and Emily are absolutely loving married life and living together after a long 5.5 years as a long-distance couple. An ideal Saturday includes completing home projects, watching a football game, and grilling out with their rescue pup, Sedona, by their side. The two are grateful for all of the love and support they have received thus far in their journey. They cannot wait to celebrate their commitment to one another with the rest of their friends and family on June 18, 2022!
