People say, "timing is everything" and that sentiment is true when it comes to Darryl & Emily. Having both grown up in Burlington, they somehow always knew "of" one another, but never really spoke until their college years. Darryl would often visit Salem State where Emily was a student, and through mutual friends there, they would often hang out at the same gatherings. Acquaintances, but never more, until years after college, when they stumbled into one another at a bar in Boston. They talked most of the night and a few weeks later went on their first date. The rest is history, as they hardly spent a day apart after that. It was early on into dating that Darryl got the call, his Unit would be deploying seven months from now and they would be gone for almost nine. They had dinner plans at Assaggio, a North End restaurant where they discussed the news and Darryl posed the question, asking if Emily wanted to continue dating, knowing this looming departure was on the horizon. Without hesitation, Emily said yes. Three years later, in that same spot, Darryl proposed, and again, without hesitation, Emily said yes! Darryl and Emily often use the phrase "The stars aligned" or as Darryl says in French "les étoiles alignées" when telling the story of how they got together. They almost didn't go out that night! But thank God, they did!
