Things To Do

We love eating good food and exploring local places. One of our favorite things to do is to try new places to eat. You can really travel the world through food. Here are some of our favorite places along with a few classic SF tourist stops.

Lands End Lookout

680 Point Lobos Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94121

A fantastic view of Golden Gate Bridge. Hike along the coast and enjoy the scenery or head down to Sutro Baths to explore.

Palace of Fine Arts

3601 Lyon Street, San Francisco, CA 94123

A classic spot for tourists. Beautiful scenery.

Bison Paddock

1237 John F Kennedy Drive, San Francisco, CA 94121

Did you know bison have been living in Golden Gate Park since 1891? As animal lovers, we had to check them out!

Holy Nata

8 Trinity Place, San Francisco, CA 94104

If you haven't tried pasteis de nata, you are missing out! This crispy Portuguese egg tart is so good that it's all this tiny hidden place sells. Get more than one pastel, it's guaranteed you'll want more once you taste it!

Pineapple King Bakery

1915 Irving Street, San Francisco, CA 94122

An SF must-try. If you've never had a fresh warm pineapple bun with a big slab of butter in it, you're missing out. They're called pineapple buns because the sugar crust looks like a pineapple! No pineapple in the buns (unless you order the one with pineapple filling.)

Garden Creamery

3566 20th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110

Of course you need an ice cream place! One of our favorite ice cream places that often has asian flavors. We love a good black sesame ice cream, though Emilie also really likes the Li Hing Mui when it's available.

Marco Polo Italian Ice Cream

3886 Noriega Street, San Francisco, CA 94122

One of the first places we went after getting married, and our official new favorite ice cream shop! Tom was blown away by the flavor choices and Emilie thinks the Mangosteen was the best.

Hot Johnnie's Smokehouse

4077 18th Street, San Francisco, CA 94114

Delicious pastrami, an appropriate amount of garlic, and they even have drag brunch on weekends. Emilie is pretty convinced they have the best garlic fries (at least when the owner is cooking).

4505 Burgers & BBQ

705 Divisadero Street, San Francisco, CA 94117

One of our more recent stops for some of the best BBQ.

Higher Grounds Coffee House

691 Chenery Street, San Francisco, CA 94131

The best coffee you'll ever have. Tasty crepes. Cash only!

Cafe de Casa

3985 17th Street, San Francisco, CA 94114

Fantastic Brazilian food with gluten free options. The cheese bread sandwiches are the best, but don't forget to try the classic coxinha, or a delicious rissole.

Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen

401 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

Venezuelan deliciousness. Emilie's favorite is the yellow arepas and cachapas with a generous amount of aioli. (Also gluten-free!)

Curry Hyuga

1204 Broadway, Burlingame, CA 94010

If Japanese curry is your jam, this is the absolute best place to go.

Bevri

335 University Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94301

A taste of (the country) Georgia. Khachapuri Adjaruli is one of our favorite dishes. Who can say no to a melty cheese boat?

Señor Sisig

990 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94110

A classic. Having lived in Daly City together for the last 12 years, of course Filipino fusion would be on the list! The Tosilog burrito is probably our favorite.

Bai Cebu Lechon

Hayward, CA 94541

One of Tom's favorite Filipino dishes would have to be the crispy pork lechon. If you're looking for the best lechon in the Bay, Bai Cebu is where it's at!

Chibog

2055 Gellert Boulevard, Daly City, CA 94015

Looking for classic Filipino? Can't make it out to Hayward just for the lechon? Chibog is what you want! Their lechon kawali is next best, and don't forget an order of the lumpiang shanghai! Tom also really loves the nutty kare-kare stew with crispy tadang.

Abu Salim Middle Eastern Grill

1599 Haight Street, San Francisco, CA 94117

Middle Eastern cuisine! Gorgeous hummus dishes, delicious shawarma, and it'll come to no surprise that Emilie's here for the cheese stuffed falafel.

Masala Dosa

1375 9th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94122

Our new favorite Indian restaurant that has the best fall-apart in your mouth lamb curry.

Diamond Head General Store

260 El Camino Real, San Bruno, CA 94066

Excellent Hawaiian food with generous portions.

Suavecito Birria & Tacos

1100 South Amphlett Boulevard, San Mateo, CA 94402

We have yet to recommend a Mexican place! So here it is, a tiny hole in the wall. There's nowhere to actually dine and it's carry-out only, but if you haven't tried cheesy birria tacos then you're in for a treat.

Outer Sunset Farmer's Market & Mercantile

1994 37th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116

Our favorite Sunday farmer's market where we like to walk, pick up some greens for the bunny, and get some tasty things to eat. The Maillards stall is our favorite burger on the Peninsula. We would say it's the best smashburger!

Tomales Bay Oyster Company

15479 California 1, Marshall, CA 94940

Every fall we get oysters here and drive to a beach to eat them. Tom thought it was a fantastic day to propose and he was right!

Nicasio Valley Cheese Company

5300 Nicasio Valley Road, Nicasio, CA 94946

We LOVE cheese. If you're headed out to Tomales Bay for oysters, this is a perfect little stop to pick up fresh cheese on the way and see the cheeses being made. The Foggy Morning with Basil and Garlic is Emilie's fav. Tom will tell you to stay away from the Nicasio Square unless you're brave enough to try something super funky.

V. Sattui Winery

1111 White Lane, St. Helena, CA 94574

Looking to explore Napa? V. Sattui is one of the best picnic spots. Emilie insists on getting some fresh local bread and the garlicky kefir spread. She's not a wine drinker though, so you'll want to ask the local experts their for their recommendation.

Sam's Chowder House

4210 California 1, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

A decent restaurant with beach access. Great place to go for a walk after you eat!

Mavericks Beach

Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

Emilie took Tom here once in the dark, to look for sea urchins. They only found one that had been stepped on. Would recommend coming during the daylight instead. Tidepools full of sea anemones, snails, and shore crabs.
