We met one Spring day in 2022 at James E. Lanigan Elementary School. When I first felt Mr. Carney’s calm, cool presence, he was seated in a chair in Adam's office, minding his own business. He glanced at me over his laptop; I heard him speak once and thought, "I'm in trouble," (the good kind, of course). Several months later, an earth angel with golden hair would play matchmaker. The rest, as they say, is history.
I spent many nights dreaming about the proposal. When the day finally came, it was nothing like what I had dreamed. It was even better. It was perfect. The day unfolded like our towels on the sand where we ate grapes and smiled, our heads in the clouds. Dusk approached the sky as our canoe approached the dock. It was the canoe we would take the next day on our first adventure as an engaged couple. Finally the moment, on the dock, captured with the photographic excellence of a cell phone balancing ever so perfectly on an Arnold Palmer can as the day's light faded over the evergreen trees... It all ended with a YES (and champagne. and s'mores)!
