After many of failed dates from multiple different dating applications, I came across Garrett’s profile on Hinge (dating app) and something about his striking good looks (with the hidden mullet) really caught my attention. Our profiles were both set to a maximum distance of 100 miles. After sending an initial message, Garrett and I began the usual back and forth banter. This turned into many nights of FaceTime dates and phone calls. After SEVERAL weeks, we were finally able to meet in person. 97 miles apart, I met Garrett in his hometown of Redford. He showed me the sights and took me for a very causal bar date at Sandy’s, which was perfect. We finished the evening meeting Garrett’s friends for a round of golf, what an interesting experience that was! The rest became history and I still say that Garrett might just be the best thing I’ve ever found on the internet.
I was often asked by many of my friends and family if I thought Garrett would propose soon or when do you think he’s going to ask you? My answer was always I have no idea clue! But if and when it happens, I will be SHOCKED was my usual response. Well, in true Garrett fashion, I was SHOCKED! We decided to go prep for deer season at his brothers property. Full of humidity and bugs, I decided to wait in the truck while he went to the final tree stand and looked things over. “Make sure you have your phone on you in case I need your help”, Garrett said before taking off for the woods. I thought to myself, I am absolutely not going out there today……..after ten minutes, my phone rang….and I was not happy at all. “I need help fixing a strap on this stand”, he said. With all my angry and fury, I took off to help him. Now, let me tell you, that is no easy journey. Down a riven, through a very mucky swamp, into the creek, and up the steep hill I went. I arrive to find Garrett very calm (not his norm). He informed me we needed to climb up the stand together to complete the repair. Begrudgingly, I made my way up with him in tow. I happened to notice something shinny, resembling a ring, hanging off of a branch but I truly thought nothing of it. I asked multiple times were this strap was, only to have Garrett ask me if I looked up. In my true blonde glory I said, “yeah, there’s a ring up there. Now where is this strap.” He said, “well the ring up there is for you.” It didn’t dawn on me until he told me to turn around what was happening. There Garrett stood holding up a sign from the movie, It Take Two, that said “World Series Kind of Stuff” which means, “can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, worlds series kind of stuff.” I said, “Oh! Okay, we’re doing this!” I said Yes! The ring was absolutely perfect, the band made from deer antlers and all! The trail camera wasn’t able to pickup any pictures of us, but that’s okay, it’s a memory that won’t be forgotten. Oh and to top it all off, he surprised me with an engagement party that same evening! What a guy!
