In November 2024, our mutual friend Jessica decided Erik needed to meet Emily and sent him a text suggesting they chat. Erik, being the brave soul he is, texted Emily, and a delightful exchange of friendly banter followed. A week later, we met in person at Starbucks for our first official “date.” As we were leaving, a local homeless woman named Melinda stopped us, smiled, and said we looked “cute together.” Then, she asked Erik, “Is she your wife?” Naturally, we both froze—marriage talk on the first meet-up? A little too soon, Melinda! But we laughed it off, went our separate ways, and later started dating. We like to think Melinda knew something we didn’t—that we’d be heading straight for the aisle!
