If you end up turning this trip into a vacation, we would implore you to travel around the island :) If so it would be a great idea to rent a car. Below are some ideas for places to visit.
Old San Juan

OSJ is a beautiful place experience the rich history of the city. Right on the water you can see and tour the old Spanish castle named "Castillo San Felipe del Morro" or "El Morro", where you will see crowds having picnics and flying kites in the heart of Old San Juan.

El Yunque National Forest

El Yunque National Forest

El Yunque, 00745, Puerto Rico

El Yunque is a 40 minute drive from San Juan and the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. This rainforest is a super lush and filled with beautiful hikes, scenic driving routes, and educational stops. Also features Charco El Hippie, system of waterfalls, pools, rapids, and caves on the south side of El Yunque.

Rincón

Rincón is located on the west side of the island, and known for it's beautiful sunsets, cute downtown, and snorkeling. It's also known as THE surfing capital of Puerto Rico. Nearby are areas like Cabo Rojo & Aguadilla, which make for great stops going in or out of the area.

Camuy

Camuy is best known for Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Río Camuy, which features one of the largest underground river cave systems in the world (about 1 hours and 15 minutes from San Juan). Camuy is also right next to Arecibo, which has nice beaches and great surfing.

Culebra

Off the east coast of Puerto Rico, you can travel to Culebra by boat, plane, or ferry. This island is known for stunning beaches, clear water snorkeling, and laid back vibes. Flamenco Beach (Playa Flamenco) is consistently ranked among the best beaches in the world.

Vieques

Similar to Culebra, you would need a short flight, a ferry, or boat to travel here. Vieques is known for it's Bioluminescence bay (great kayaking), wild horses, and stunning beaches.
