Em’s older brother and the discerning eye through which every other guy before Vadim had gone through and failed. They were childhood archrivals, hardened by the countless fake death matches they used to play. This is probably why Em thinks she could win any fight if she just squinted threateningly at her enemy hard enough, given how little Mikey would always miraculously get a little weaker when she did. One of Em’s earliest memories is of Mikey burrowing her tiny head, face down, into the mattress with his toddler ass. Now he’s Em’s constant ally in all things, big or small. He’s the David Rose to Em’s Alexis.

Em and Vadim's relationship cheerleader! They bonded over thinking that The Bachelor was such a stupid franchise… until they both got hooked. On their free time, they daydream about children and husband playdates and forcing their kids together through an arranged marriage. Jen has supported Em and Vadim's relationship in all of its phases; so much so that she’s probably one of the reasons why Em and Vadim survived 5 years of medical school and residency. She’s the relationship’s silent cheerleader, always Em’s voice of reason, and an eternal believer and advocate of Vadim. Jen’s famous words: “don’t worry, he’ll learn!”

The friend who’s down for everything! Selene and Em’s friendship blossomed because they like to obsess over things that should be relaxing, like planning a trip or a night out. Their relationship mainly involves asking each other what the other person is going to wear and keeping each other in check with their endless fashion purchases. Underneath this tiny package of spunk and sass is an incredibly loyal friend who has always had Em’s back. Em finds comfort in knowing that if she ever wants to get away spontaneously or do something fun, there’s at least one girl who will always be ready to do it with her.

Em’s first friend in San Francisco! When Em partially moved to SF for Vadim, she knew she needed some help to make the place feel more like home. She quickly found this in Rachael, who Em thinks is an angel on earth. She's probably one of the most caring and compassionate people Em has ever met, usually volunteering her time and energy for causes she deeply cares about. Rachael is also the type of friend who would do anything in the name of friendship - like join a booty shaking contest in Em’s honor (after a couple of shots and 3 glasses of mojito)! The friend that Em goes to when she needs mature, unbiased, rational, and thoughtful advice. In a world surrounded by mostly "feeler" personality type (MBTI) friends, Em feels truly seen and understood by Elle. Even though they're now in a long distance friendship ever since Elle moved to Boston, their friendship is still as strong thanks to all the random TikTok videos and memes they send each other on a regular basis. One of Em's most treasured memories to date is of Vadim, Ellie, and her doing some drunk karaoke, singing Moana's How Far I'll Go at the top of their lungs. There's a really embarrassing video of this just hanging out in the cloud, waiting to be released someday.

Em’s friend from the Philippines and a witness to every single relationship Em has ever been in. She’s heard all the dating stories, both horrific and good; which is why she found it so surprising that even after years of dating Vadim, Em only had good things to say. Em has always admired Mary because she thinks she’s one of those rare human gems who just radiates goodness; what luck that she’s marrying a man who’s exactly the same. Fun fact: when they were young, they used to play pretend that they were in a soap opera - Mary was the sweet innocent girl and Em was the evil future mother-in-law who hated her guts. They did a lot of weird things together.

The friend who inspires Em to be more present and who always gives her sound advice! If Em got a penny for every single time some guy has asked her if Sachiko is single after getting a glimpse of her, she would probably have enough money to fund her occasional shopping addiction. One of Em’s favorite memories with Sachiko is of them linked together arm in arm, keeping each other stable as they hiked against the current in The Narrows during a trip to Zion National Park. She’s strong, independent, and the type of friend who will stand by your side as she silently supports you, making sure you don’t face-plant both literally and metaphorically in life. Fun fact: Sachiko has 6 tomato plants. She seem to REALLY love her tomatoes.

The friend who’s doing everything so perfectly and hasn’t slept in for the past two years! From the moment Em saw photos of Haimin dressed as Ciri (The Witcher) and Morty (Rick and Morty), she knew they would be fast friends. When Em looks at Haimin, she sees the type of wife and mother she one day wants to be - extremely supportive without being overbearing, firm but understanding, kind, and loving. It’s also impressive that she does this on top of kicking ass at work. Lately, she’s been inspiring Em to learn how to crochet as she makes professionally made-looking stuffed animals for baby Jessica! Em’s future baby will have Haimin to thank for them later.
