Our Perspectives

Livin' on a prayer

Emily's perspective: In April 2017 I wrote out a prayer for the man God intended for me (whoever he may be). I prayed it would be made obvious. Being new to the island, I joined the C-Group Kyle was hosting, and initially I thought, "Dang, he's cute. No way he's single. Whatever, I'm just happy to have friends." After a couple weeks of us all hanging out, he messaged me about the fun events in Galveston that weekend (but I was out of town). I thought, "What a cool friend." We continued to message each other. Chatting came easily, turned out we were total weirdos, but we had the same sense of adventure and humor. We planned to meet up for golfing and dinner the next Friday, but I had an emergency, so he said, "It's okay, we will postpone the date." I didn't know it was a date! He actually liked me? Game changer. We made plans to hang out by the pool on Saturday instead, and after spending the day together, I knew, "This is it." Without question. Kyle is the answer to the prayer I prayed. God delivered in a major and perfect way! Kyle's perspective: Everything about Emily has just felt right. We first met in our C Group (bible study), which was a huge plus, as I wanted to date/marry a Christian woman. We eventually started talking/hanging out and I felt we hit it off pretty well. I never once had to act like a different person to try to impress her. I was able to be my goofy self, and luckily, she put up with it! On one of our first few times hanging out, we were sitting in our floaties in my pool talking about life and marriage, before we were even "official." You often hear people say something along the lines of "when you know, you know" and I never really understood it until I experienced it. We haven't been together as long as the average couple getting married, but I've felt something special about Emily since the day we met. I believe God brought us together for a reason, and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of our lives.

The Wedding

Our ceremony and reception will be held at the historic Ashton Villa. With weather permitting, we will have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside with the reception in the grand ballroom. Knowing Galveston, we will not know what the weather will be like. We hope it's lovely! But if it's not, the entire party will be inside. Visit the Historical Foundation website to see more about Ashton Villa's history (picture below): http://www.galvestonhistory.org/attractions/architectural-heritage/ashton-villa
