At the Principia College championship soccer game in November of 2019 (which was freezing cold) Emma and Emily ended up at the bonfire on the sidelines, trying to stay warm. When the student events team broke out the s'mores supplies, Emma was pumped. She began to explain to Emily that she needed a place to melt the chocolate for her s'more. A s'more without melted chocolate was unacceptable. When she turned to ask another person at the bonfire to move a cinder block closer to the fire for her, Emily couldn't move fast enough. She grabbed that cinder block and plopped it down before the other person could move. In the process, she cut her palm open, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. Emily and Emma ended up chatting happily for the rest of the game. Emily left looking for a bandaid and a reason to see Emma again.
Emma asked Emily on their first official date on February 28th. They went swing dancing. Emma drove them to Casa Loma in St. Louis, blasting her favorite music the whole way. Emily spent the trip jotting down the titles on her notes app, so she could make a playlist later. When they got to the dance hall, they joined the dance floor for a lesson in the basics. The instructor told all the couples to line up and to politely ask each other to dance. Emma turned to Emily and asked, "Would you like to dance?" Emily looked in her eyes and without thinking responded, "Of course I would. I love you!" Emily was mortified to say the least, but Emma just said, "We don't have to talk about it." They danced for the rest of the night and headed back to campus, this time with Emily as DJ. It was only a couple weeks before Emma said, "I love you, too!" The rest was history.
