FAQs

Question

What gender neutral term can I use instead of “bride” or “groom”?

Answer

We prefer the terms “betrothed” or "the couple", or just our names (Em & Adam).

Question

When is the RSVP deadline?

Answer

Thank you in advance for sending your RSVP by May 19. All RSVPs will be collected digitally on our 'RSVP' page - no need to mail anything back.

Question

Can I bring a plus one OR my kids?

Answer

Unfortunately we have limited space at our venue, so we kindly ask that only those listed on your invitation attend to ensure we have enough seating and meals for all our guests. All attendees should be accounted for on your RSVP.

Question

What does the dress code mean?

Answer

All-black: We ask all attendees (including kiddos) to please join us in their finest ALL-BLACK outfit – no colors! While your outfit does not need to be "black tie", please wear something nice in the color black. What about accessories? Guests are encouraged to accessorize with gold and silver tones. Semi-formal: Think cocktail or midi length dresses, heels, ties (bow ties encouraged), suits, vests, button ups, dress pants, etc. Or elevate your look with a formal gown or tuxedo, but this is by no means required. We like fancy, so get as fancy with it as you'd like. BUT, please avoid jeans, leggings, and t-shirts – no casual wear! Please notify your plus ones of these guidelines as well.

Question

Will the ceremony and reception be outside or indoors?

Answer

Both our ceremony and reception will be INDOORS. However, we encourage all our guests to enjoy the summer weather and surrounding nature that Madison has to offer on the lakefront, bike paths, and at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Refer to the map on our 'schedule' page for building entrances and event locations for the ceremony and reception.

Question

Where should guests park? Is parking free?

Answer

Please see the map on our 'travel' page for parking options at the Goodman Community Center. It is free for guests to park at our venue in the lots noted on the map. Overnight parking is allowed only in the main parking lots of the Ironworks and Brassworks buildings. For overflow parking, guests may use the yellow marked stalls near the back of the parking lot for St. Bernard's Catholic Church (located across the street from the Brassworks building, with an entrance on Corry St), but all cars parked in this lot must be moved before the end of the night. Limited street parking available (restrictions may apply, please pay attention to signs).

Question

Do you have a hotel block for guests?

Answer

Yes, we have a block of rooms available at both Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown and Comfort Inn & Suites Madison East – Monona. Book your stay by June 9 for a discounted group rate. Please visit our 'travel' page for booking links, or call and ask to book a room with the Hirsch-Gunnelson wedding block.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

Guests staying at Hotel Indigo will have access to a complimentary shuttle service that is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact the front desk at the start of your stay to reserve a shuttle to or from our venue. Comfort Inn & Suites does not offer transportation for our venue. Celebrate safely! - If you plan to drink, please plan for a safe ride. Guests may leave their cars parked at the Goodman Community Center overnight in either of the main parking lots (see the map on our 'travel' page). Please prioritize safe-driving and take an Uber, Lyft, or Union Cab taxi back to your hotel if needed, or arrange for a designated driver and carpool with another guest!

Question

Are the ceremony and reception spaces wheelchair accessible?

Answer

Yes, both the Brassworks and Ironworks buildings are wheelchair accessible. Please see the map on our 'schedule' page for building entrances. The main entrance of Ironworks is closest to the parking lot and should be used for wheelchair access. There is a ramp at the parking lot entrance of Brassworks.

Question

What happens after the ceremony? Should I make plans elsewhere between the ceremony and reception?

Answer

The reception will begin immediately after the ceremony, with bar service starting as early as 2pm. Unless asked to stay for a photo, guests can head right across the street to the reception for cocktails, or (if weather permits) enjoy some fresh air on a walk down the bike path. There will also be a photobooth, DIY friendship bracelet station, snacks, and a quiet space available during this time. We will be taking photos nearby with our wedding party and families for about an hour after the ceremony. We are excited to rejoin all our guests for karaoke and appetizers after photos!

Question

Are there any allergy-friendly meal options?

Answer

Yes! The Squash and Tofu Curry is gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. The Mushroom Risotto is gluten free. All meal options are vegetarian, as are the appetizers. For any other dietary restrictions or allergies, please notify us as soon as possible! We will do our best to work with the venue to accommodate everyone's needs.

Question

Why don't any of the meals include a meat option?

Answer

We are both vegetarians (Adam for ~4 years, Em for ~14years), and it is important to us that our wedding menu reflects this.

Question

Who can I contact if I have a question not answered on your website?

Answer

We tried to ensure all information our guests will need is accessible here on our website, but if we missed anything please text us directly. Em (262) 573-7689 Adam (608) 444-1612
