On July 29, 2017, Stephanie Hawkinson (Connor's Mom) ran the Dennis Road Race with her friend, Colleen Phelps. During the race, Colleen asked Stephanie how her family was doing. Stephanie mentioned Connor had just moved to New York City and unfortunately had just broken his leg. Colleen said that her college roommate's daughter also lived in New York City and just had bunion surgery. Colleen joked they should be set up. That college roommate happened to be Elyse's Mom, Laura Viviano. After getting their okay, Colleen attempted to play match maker. But, nothing happened because both Connor and Elyse were on crutches and in boots and didn’t think that would make for a fun first date. Two months later, because of a very persistent Stephanie, Connor finally reached out to Elyse on Instagram. They went on their first date a couple of weeks later, both in boots, and both realizing it was perfect!
