MASS MoCA

Clark Art Institute

In 1950 Sterling and Francine Clark chartered the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as a home for their extensive art collection. Opened to the public in 1955, the Clark has built upon this extraordinary group of works to become one of the most beloved and respected art museums in the world, known for its intimate galleries and stunning natural environment. There are also some excellent moderate hiking trails on the museum's campus and breath taking scenery.

Mount Greylock State Reservation

For our wizarding world friends, the highest peak of Mount Greylock is the home of Ilvermorny which is of course hidden from the No-Maj's eyes. Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts. From its peak on a clear day, you can see as far as 90 miles away. Visitors can either hike or drive to the summit. The summit also is home to Bascom Lodge and the Veterans War Memorial Tower.

Natural Bridge State Park

Natural Bridge State Park is home to the only natural white marble arch in North America. According to geologists, the park's namesake natural bridge, made of 550 million year-old bedrock marble, was carved into its iconic arch by the forces of glacial melt water over 13,000 years ago. Inside the park, visitors can also tour an abandoned marble quarry and check out a man-made white marble dam--also the only one in North America!

Cascade Trail - Trailhead

The Cascades Trail is a short, beautiful river walk following the Notch Brook in North Adams from the end of Marion Avenue to a popular cascading waterfall. A hidden in-town gem, this trail is minutes away from downtown areas of North Adams and Williamstown and is short enough to walk on a whim for anyone looking to squeeze a nice hike into a limited amount of time.

Hoosac Tunnel

Featured on the Lore (The Bloody Pit episode) podcast, this is a historic (and still active!) and allegedly haunted train tunnel in North Adams.

Hancock Shaker Village

Hancock Shaker Village is a landmark destination of 750 acres, 20 historic Shaker buildings, and over 22,000 Shaker artifacts. On the National Historic Register, it is the most comprehensively interpreted Shaker site in the world, and the oldest working farm in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.

Hoosac Range Trail

A three-mile long ridge trail along the Berkshires’ northeastern wall, Hoosac Range includes several dramatic vistas, including the one to the west at the trail’s Spruce Hill destination. A much shorter hike, 1.6 miles roundtrip, leads to Sunset Rock, which also has spectacular views to the west.
