Christian and Elsa first met sometime in 2009/2010 in the Michael Chemistry Building at Tufts University. Elsa was starting her master's in Engineering Education, while Christian was well into his Chemistry Ph.D. After being introduced to Christian, Elsa was told to, "stay away from him, he's a creep". Over the next several years, Christian and Elsa continued to cross paths in the small world of poor graduate students surviving off of summer softball leagues, Sligo PBRs, and chasing free meals at Tufts events. As Elsa had more encounters with Christian, she realized he was less of a creep and more of a clown. Her suspicions were confirmed one fateful night in October of 2012, when she ran into Christian at a Halloween party. When he hit on her as a jack-in-the-box, she was instantly smitten. He was just happy some girl appreciated the 60 hours he put into the costume and would actually crank the handle rigged up to play "Pop Goes the Weasel." The next many years were filled with ski trips, projects-on-projects, putting a home together, meeting each other's families, holidays, vacations and so much more that have brought them so close together. In November 2018, they decided to make this a life-long adventure; fittingly, at the top of Loon Mountain. Christian was already on one knee (he is a snowboarder after all), and fished out of his pocket the ring Elsa knew he was working on, but didn't think he had. She said "Oh, sure!"
