We first met in Laos and instantly connected over our shared love of travel, adventure and cheap cocktails. It was a brief encounter, but one that turned out to be the most significant of our lives. After a couple of months apart, we arranged to meet up in Thailand. We spent the next few weeks laughing and learning about each other while we soaked up the short time we had left together on the island. We soon realised we had something worth pursuing. We went our separate ways, but promised that one day we would see each other again. A few months passed, and the promise was fulfilled. We reunited in Australia and began the next chapter of our lives together. Five years later, we have moved across Australia and New Zealand, finally landing in Alex’s hometown in England. As when we first met, our lives remain filled with travel and adventure. Now, we’re ready for the biggest adventure of all - getting hitched!
After an eventful start to a holiday in Barcelona including a few too many (not so cheap) cocktails, shameful karaoke and a hangover that could slay a walrus, neither of us felt up for what was going to be one of the most memorable days of our lives. Taking this into consideration, Alex made the decision to postpone his pre-planned proposal at the last minute. Emily was none the wiser and the holiday continued. The next day, with our humanity restored, we found a beautiful lake where we were able to hire a little rowboat. As we paddled out into the lake, Emily turned around for some photos. When she looked back, Alex was down on one knee, holding a beautiful ring and asking the most important question. The proposal was intimate, romantic and everything we’d hoped it would be. We spent the rest of the day walking on the beach, indulging in paella, and toasting to our future together.
