It all began in February 2021 when Mohamed slid into my DMs on Instagram with an unexpected request—he wanted me to draw him after seeing a digital portrait of someone I illustrated. I quoted him and brushed him off. But Mo wasn’t discouraged. On March 7, he came back, commenting on a picture I posted, shooting his shot again. I friend-zoned him—but he stayed persistent, and consistent, always finding ways to stay connected. Through our conversations we found out we had a lot in common including the fact that we were both Togolese. He lived in another state so I wasn't thinking nothing of it. Then came my birthday. Mo told me he was flying to Atlanta to take me out. I hesitated, but he made it clear: he wasn’t asking for permission—he was coming. We met, went to dinner, and had an amazing time. After the friendship deepened into something more and we continued talking and getting to know each other. On October 10, 2021, we made it official, and did a long distance relationship for 2 years. Fast forward to December 2023—I was sure he’d propose on my birthday in 2024. But in true Mo fashion, he had other plans. With just two months of planning (and help from my sister), he pulled off a surprise proposal disguised as a friend’s 24th birthday celebration. It was perfect, heartfelt, and everything I never saw coming. Now here we are, ready to begin the next chapter of our story. We can’t wait to celebrate our love with you.
