How We Met

High School (sort of) Sweethearts

Our story began before the first day of our freshman year of high school at Dominion Christian. We had both joined the brand new band at school and had a kick off meeting before the first day. We were the only two who had prior musical experience so we hit it off pretty well. We had multiple classes together throughout the 2 years we attended the same school so our friendship was able to continue after Ellis left to go to public school. Dominion had a sort of unspoken tradition that people who had left but were still friends with current students were typically asked back to the dances. Jennifer asked Ellis if he wanted to go with her to senior prom since he was still in touch with most everyone. After prom we kind of lost touch but we ended up finding out we both went to Kennesaw State, although on separate campuses at the time. Ellis invited Jennifer to Steak-n-Shake (with John, of course) and we started dating Fall of our freshman year of college.

The Proposal

December 26, 2019

The evening started with a nice dinner at Cafe Intermezzo. Afterwards, we went to see the Lights of Life. This was significant to us because we had gone to see the lights with friends shortly after we had started dating. The campus was pretty crowded and the gazebo we liked was closed off so we headed back. As we were walking, there was this small building on the side of the road. We walked up to it and found it was a nature center and had been built in the 1700s. They had decorated the building with lights and it was adorable. Ellis started talking about our past years on campus and I was listening and looking at the lights. When I turned to look at him, he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried. I said yes. And here we are. We're excited to celebrate this time with family and friends!
