A bar/bat mitzvah is a rite of passage to celebrate a Jewish boy or girl entering adulthood. Bar = boys, Bat = girls. This milestone is typically held around the boy’s thirteenth birthday (Elliott turns 13 on October 6th).
Elliott will read from the Torah, the Rabbi and family members will say prayers and blessings. A Bar Mitzvah can take place at a synagogue or at any space with a Rabbi; in this case the Rabbi and the Torah will come to our venue for the ceremony.
Yes! Similar to a wedding, all the guests will come to the service (ceremony) and the celebrate with us at the party (reception).
The ceremony isn't in a synagogue, but people will dress like they would to go to any religious service (at a synagogue or church). Suits, dresses, etc. The party is dressy, but more fun and relaxed! Come ready to dance and have a good time!
We'll have a Kiddush lunch (bagels, etc.) and everyone can chat and congratulate El! Then everyone has a break to go home / to their hotel, rest, change, and get ready for the party!
