Sometimes it pays to be creepy! It was time for Sam’s annual employer-sponsored health screening. She almost skipped it because of a soul crushing meeting, but instead decided to use it as an excuse to ditch the soul crushing meeting. When she stepped on the screening bus, she and Elliott locked eyes for the first time. Elliott was working as a medical assistant in the midst of a mobile health screening tour around the southwestern US. The next name he called was not Sam’s, much to both of their disappointments. But since that patient wasn’t on the bus, you can probably guess whose name was called next. After some adorably awkward banter and a high five about both of them having type 1 diabetes, Sam and Elliott parted ways. That would have unfortunately been the end of the story had Sam’s blood sugar not been absolutely atrocious, causing Elliott to bring a “hey, you are actively disintegrating, please for the love of hell see a doctor” form to Sam’s office. Despite the obvious glee with which they met each other, neither party asked to keep in touch like they wanted to. Returning to the form, Sam noticed Elliott’s full name and company. “I know I’m good,” Sam thought, “but am I THAT good?” She was. Thirty seconds later, knowing only a name and workplace, Sam had located Elliott’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. “That’s enough, you creepy bitch,” Sam told herself. But it wasn’t - over the course of a couple weeks, the thought of never seeing Elliott again became unacceptable. After annoying her friends about it for weeks, Sam sent a Facebook message to the tune of: “I’d love to commiserate about diabetes, and anyway, HOPE THIS ISN’T WEIRD…” Elliott promptly replied about his enjoyment of making friends on the road (LIES!) and the messages only got longer from there. After numerous FaceTime conversations lasting an average of five hours each, Sam flew to Dallas to meet Elliott for a long weekend on a tour stop, where Elliott officially asked The Girlfriend Question™️ on October 7, 2018. After six months of adventures all over the country, airport goodbyes that rivaled Greek tragedies, and a level of connection neither of them had ever encountered before, Elliott left the tour and moved to New Mexico to be with Sam. They moved to Oregon together, then to Sam’s hometown of Indiana, assembling a family of cats and dogs (and a house!) along the way. On their fifth anniversary, October 7, 2023, Elliott asked The Wife Question™️ in the beautiful rolling hills of Brown County State Park. Anyway, hope this isn’t weird, but the bride and groom can’t wait to celebrate their marriage with you, their beloved friends and family!
