Here is my (Elliott) side of how we met. I was in downtown Hendersonville meeting my Mom and Dave for a vintage fair they had going on and this young man was playing music in front of a coffee shop. " Hey there Delilah" to be exact. We decided to go over and get a coffee and listen, and because maybe a little part of me thought he was cute. As I was walking to my table with my coffee in hand, I hear him starting a christian song! I turned around with my jaw dropped, not realizing it haha. How awesome to hear this young adult praising God through his music in the public streets!! We sat and listened for about 2 hours, his voice was amazing ;) He took a break and came a talked with us, he invited me to bible study and the rest his history!! I am so thankful for the gift that Jimmy is and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life as his wife. He is passionate about the Lord and has a deep compassion for people. I cannot wait to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ with you. I love you so much!!
My side of the story might be a bit longer than Ellie’s but well worth the hour-long read. (I’m joking). Though I would like to mention, for me, it was love at first sight so I remember every detail. It all started on a warm Saturday in June. (June the 12th to be exact). I had been playing music since late morning in front of Black Bear coffee shop in the little town of Hendersonville, North Carolina. I typically play mini sets and switch from originals, to clean pop, to worship. Since that morning I’d been playing clean pop so I was beginning to get tired of it. I decided to finish out strong with, “Hey There Delilah” when this beautiful girl with big blue eyes walked across the street. That day there was a street fair going on when I noticed, what I thought to be, her parents, meet up with her there on the street. Next thing I know they start making their way to me. I was excited. Elliott and her mom walked into Black Bear while Dave waited outside by the tables. At this point I had finished playing pop for the day and decided to take a quick break (part of me wanted to wait till they got back out again). I was hopeful to see Elliott’s reaction when I started playing a worship song. I took a sip of water and got my capo ready, half fooling around, I tuned my guitar to pass the time.
A few long minutes later, Elliott and Mrs. Becky came outside again and started toward Dave. This was my shot; I started strumming the first chord of “Goodness of God” and sang the lyrics, “I love you, Lord.” My hopeful hunch didn’t let me down. She literally spun around, bending down, (coffee in hand), gasped, and smiled at me. I gladly returned a smile back at her. Two hours passed quickly and they stayed the whole time. I decided to take a break from playing and walked over to introduce myself. We talked for probably half an hour about faith, my testimony, and what God’s done for our lives and finally, prayed together. Elliott invited me to hike with her and her brother that Wednesday and asked for my number! I was blown away. I ended up calling her that Sunday and invited her to bible study, so she came that Monday, I met Blaine (her brother) on a hike that Wednesday, and the rest is His(story)! We officially started dating July the 15th and will be married July the 23rd. Everyday since, my love for her has grown. I can’t thank God enough for the gift she is to me. She’s the most patient, loving, thoughtful, and hilarious person I know. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Elliott Mae McBee. I love you!
