I first met Wallace while we were both students at St. Petersburg Junior College. Although we shared a history class and had been attending for a while, we had never actually crossed paths. One afternoon, after class, I was chatting with my friends while waiting for the bus when Wallace walked up and joined the conversation. During our chat, he asked if he could give me a ride home. I responded, 'No, but you can take my friend Catherine home.' Wallace looked at me, smiled, and said, 'I don’t want to take her home, I want to take you home.' My friends all let out a collective sigh of oohs and whoas, and I couldn’t help but smile (and maybe even giggle) as I replied, 'Okay.' He took me home that day, and from that moment on, we started talking every day. It was the beginning of something truly special."
