We are planning on having our ceremony outside, weather permitting. Please wear a warm coat, gloves, scarf, etc. We want everyone to be comfortable, so if it is too cold then we will move the ceremony indoors. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

How It Started

Fall Semester 2020

Kayla's Side: I had no expectations of a relationship going into this year. I didn't think a "ring by spring" was in my future and I was perfectly happy to finish out my college experience with my best friends. Fast forward to September, and Ashleigh somehow convinced me to go dancing with her and Elliot. I thought that I would go, hang out with the people that were there, but just sit on the sidelines. Of course, as soon as I got there Elliot pulled me off the bench and started teaching me how to dance. That's when I first thought "Ok, who is this guy?" When he asked me to coffee one day, dinner a few days later, a play the next, I had a feeling that this (whatever 'this' was) might turn into something. And I was right. We went on drives, to see movies, and just enjoyed spending time with each other. During the quad's Halloween party, when he pulled me onto the dance floor yet again, suspicions (including my own) arose. And sure enough, the next day on a sunrise drive, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Obviously, things went pretty well from there :) Elliot's Side: It started with a dance, well lots of dancing. Some friends and I were getting together to ballroom dance and I was informed Kayla was coming, but not dancing. Who goes and doesn't dance!?! So I decided that moment that I would teach Kayla to dance! Well... I may have ended up dancing with her the whole night, adding a few sparse dances with other people here and there, "just so Kayla didn't get the wrong idea." But I was hooked. It became a game of how to hang out with Kayla one on one and get to know her more. We got coffee, even though both of us don't drink coffee, and after that conversation, I knew there was more to this girl that I had to know. A night on the top level of a parking garage and many swapped stories and I knew I had to see this through. In case you were wondering... the story ends very well. PS we're engaged now!

The Proposal

April 22, 2021

Kayla's Side: I thought that it was just another Thursday afternoon. I had dinner with Elliot before going to my evening education class. We were going stargazing that night (something we had been planning for weeks), so I was hoping my class didn't run long. I hadn't been feeling super great that day, but I pulled it together because it seemed like Elliot was really excited to go. I got changed into my warmest clothes (it was in the forties that night) and Elliot picked me up. As we drove to the parkway, we reminisced about the school year thus far. When we got to the spot we had scoped out last Friday, we got all our blankets out and looked up at the stars. It was so cold, but I was having the best time. We talked about our favorite moments in our relationship and also about what we were excited for in the future. That's when Elliot started saying all these super sweet things that sounded like a proposal. I thought he wasn't being serious (even though that would be totally out of character) and so it took him pulling out the ring for me to realize what was happening. As soon as I got over my shock (kind of) I immediately said yes! Elliot's Side: The week before I proposed, I met with Kayla's father in the moring to ask for his blessing in our marriage. In the evening, Kayla and I went on a drive to enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway and find a place to "stargaze." I, however, was looking for somewhere to propose. A spot was found and I did my best to not become over-excited about "stargazing." It didn't work; I couldn't contain my excitement! Thankfully it didn't let on I was proposing! I wrote a whole speech filled with love and romance, gathered my picnic blanket and lights, and we were off to "stargaze". As we laid watching the stars and reminiscing on our relationship, I knew what I had to say. I just wanted to tell her what had been running through my head the whole day. I said some sweet things and proposed. I'll let you in on a little secret: she said yes.
