The Synopsis

A Haiku

we met in youth group. we broke up twice, dated thrice. still dating. will wed.

The Context

Admittedly, we did meet while we were in high school. It was a Wednesday at our new youth group meetings (shout out to Emily Rutledge for organizing that, Father David for hiring Emily, and Jesus for good measure). A few highly sophisticated Facebook messages, afflicted with the improper grammar that the youths loved back then, and we were dropped off on our first date to see "2012" in theaters (neither of us could drive). Two weeks later, we broke up. Teens. Then, a couple of months later, we got back together (a true scandal in the youth group). At this stage we were still both freshly fifteen. The next few months were full of classic teen dating moments: lots of texting, more bad grammar, you know, teen stuff. One morning at church we broke up again. We liked to keep people on their toes. After a couple of months of not really speaking, we went on a mission trip together (another shout out to Emily, David, Jesus), and that summer got back together. Haven't broken up since. And there we have it. Zach and I just keep on being together. Our book will be coming out in 2020.
