Hi lovely family and friends😊 It is time to be hearing wedding bells! Below is a list to help you arrange stays and travels. Also, I added a few tips we have learned over the years of visiting Daufuskie! 1. Places to stay search Daufuskie Rental Group. https://www.vacationdaufuskiesc.com/ The 2-bedroom units are enough for 3 families. We have done it. They are roomy. We have consistently rented through this group. They are various rental places along the way as well. Just google it and peruse the list. In the event you are only planning on staying 2 nights my advice would be to stay in Hilton Head and ferry over both days. 2. Ferry. The island does not have a bridge. Cars are left at the Ferry parking lot. The Ferry system we have used for more than 10 years has lost their contract as of this year. This is the Ferry listed. https://www.lowcoferry.com/ the site has good information. You must reserve your space early. There is also a ferry from Bluffton which is 10 minutes from Hilton Head. Bluffton is beautiful and worth a visit. You want to choose to arrive to the County Dock or Melrose Dock. 3. Ground transportation. Once you arrive on the Ferry you need ground transportation to your cottage if you are staying on the island. If you are arriving for the day we will pick you up in golf carts. Make sure you get dropped off at the County Dock or Melrose Dock. https://www.daufuskietransit.com/ 4. Restaurants - not many and unreliable to be open. One we found always open is the Freeport Marina. They even have some tiny cottages for rent. https://www.daufuskiedifference.com/ 5. Hopefully if you stay on the Island your golf cart will be included with your place….. fingers crossed. This is the first time ours is not. There is are some rules about gas carts versus electric carts – check with your rental. DRG10 gets you a discount on the golf carts. https://www.vacationcoastalrentals.com/
Tips for the island: Bring only a few items. You can wash clothes. The weather is all over the place in October – it may be a scorcher and you made need a jacket. I find nighttime on the golf cart to be cold so I always need a jacket in October. BUG spray! At low tide the bugs eat me. There are several cool places to visit and a few bars to drink. There is a winery – basically they sell on the side of the road – it is GROSS don’t waste your money. LOL Most important thing to bring is patience. It is a different way of life and no one is in a hurry. Seriously. Bring plenty of food. I always plan on cooking 2 meals a day. There are a few eating options but we have been there when there has been hardly anything open. There is a small convenience type store – there is NO grocery or real shopping on the island! If you want to eat it, you need to bring it. Plan on just decompressing while on Daufuskie. You can golf cart around and just be. Enjoy it. We will have games daily. Corn hole, badminton, croquet. I will have lots of snacks. Tuesday night rehearsal dinner with be pasta, bread and salad. Wednesday after the wedding we will have the reception at 8 Summer Salt Cottage. The bridesmaids will be staying in the brides’ side rental cottage. The groomsmen will stay at the grooms’ rental cottage. Lastly, and most importantly, thank you for spending your time with us on this special day. I know this is a pricey adventure and we will try every way to offset the cost as best as we can. I will be providing a lot of food. We love you all!
