As some of you from around here might remember, a few years back, a fast food chain (or as we prefer--a quick service restaurant) decided to make it's first appearance in West Michigan: Chick-fil-A. Now, let us give this season of life some context...Ellie's plane had just landed home in the United States after studying abroad in Honduras for a semester about 3 weeks prior, and Tyler was gearing up for his last semester of high school. When both Tyler and Ellie signed up for jobs at Chick-fil-A, neither one of them expected more than a job to get them through school. However, within our first week or two, we both vividly remember a statement from our restaurant's owner-operator, Brad: You thought you were just signing up for a job, but I'm asking you to change your life. While obviously a lot happened in our lives between January 12, 2017 and now, I think we can both say with confidence, that that place did change our lives. For example, we will both forever say "my pleasure" and combined the two of us know more about food safety and drive thru efficiency than anyone I know. But much more than little things such as those--this restaurant changed Ellie's life by introducing a kind, honest, patient man who so clearly embodies the love of Jesus, and it changed Tyler's life by bringing the most Christ-like, caring, and loving woman he had ever met into his world. We could not be more thankful for the small ways (and BIG) that Jesus has and continues to show up. We cannot wait to start our life together, and we are thankful that you are a part of this journey.
