OUR STORY

Ryan was my cup of tea!

Our Story It was 2018, I had been working as a tea taster in the UK when I was offered the opportunity to visit Indonesia to learn all about tea production. I eagerly headed to the bustling city of Jakarta. I frequented the weekly tea auction and was fortunate enough to spend much of my time visiting the magnificent tea estates in the misty mountains in Java. It was only towards the end of my placement that I made the acquaintance of Ryan Mckenzie. Ryan and I hit it off immediately, I was chatty and loud and he was calm and patient. We had a whirlwind romance spending every moment outside of work together. For my final weekend in Indonesia, Ryan invited me to join him in Bali! One of my favourite memories from this trip was when we were struggling to find a taxi home after a long, very liquid day at Finns beachclub and we eventually conceded and allowed a little man on a scooter to give us a 'romantic bike ride’ home it was extremely uncomfortable but a uniquely Indonesian experience which I will remember until my dying day. After Bali, Ryan said goodbye to me at the airport and promised to visit me in the UK! Just as promised, not even 2 weeks later, Ryan arrived at Heathrow Terminal 4, absolutely freezing, inadequately dressed, and exhausted after travelling 37 hours from Mackay, Australia where he had just celebrated Christmas with his family. There was no time for jetlag though as just the following morning Crystal Palace were playing Chelsea at Selhurst Park and this was a match not to be missed. After England, Ryan and I flew back and forth until Ryan finally asked me to move to Indonesia and stay with him! The rest is History! We are now the proud pawrents of two naughty doggies “Scooby-Doo” and “Marco-Polo” and one sassy Bengal cat “Meeko”! *** The Proposal- 05/05/22 We had been exhibiting at a tradeshow in Denver and as it was my first trip to the USA, Ryan suggested we go to Miami for a few days after the event to unwind. He checked us in at the airport and handed me my boarding pass which he had tactically placed inside my passport. It was only when I went to order some lunch at the bar when I scanned my boarding pass and was surprised to see Cancun as the destination! The Cancun resort was incredible, we sipped Piña coladas and Margaritas by the pool, ventured into town to visit some tourist hotspots and on our penultimate day Ryan had organised a ‘boat trip’. What he had failed to mention was that the ‘boat trip’ was actually a private yacht which was fully staffed with a chef, bartenders and boat crew! We headed towards Isla Mujeres! When we arrived, I wanted to have some photos at the front of the boat. This is when he “popped the question”! He had even organised a photographer who captured the special moment! (Ryan had told me that the photographer had been there to take photos for the boat company’s website!) Needless to say- I said Yes!
