This scenic drive might be good for anyone planning on extending their visit to Montana by adding additional days before or after the wedding. The Beartooth Highway, U.S. Route 212, is a 68-mile drive that climbs more than 5,000 feet in elevation and snakes through mountain passes between Cooke City and Red Lodge, Montana, with a dip into northern Wyoming. Reporter Charles Kuralt once called it "the most beautiful drive in America." Cooke City is near the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. At one point, the road crosses the 45th parallel, the exact halfway point between the equator and the North Pole. The Beartooth Highway passes through parts of Custer, Shoshone, and Gallatin national forests, and skirts portions of the Absaroka–Beartooth Wilderness. The high point of the drive is 10,947-foot Beartooth Pass, which, at that latitude, can see ferocious, unexpected storms including snow even in the height of summer.
Combine classic links-style golf and the stunning natural beauty of Big Sky. The award-winning 18-hole par 72 golf course offers long drives and spectacular views. The Arnold Palmer-designed course is 6,500 feet above sea level, meaning your hits go even further.
The Reserve is a private, 8,000 yard, Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, surrounded by some of the finest scenery in Montana. To play here, you must be staying in Moonlight Basin, which typically requires a 3-night minimum in the summer. Jack Nicklaus himself considers it to be the most beautiful course he’s ever designed, and those who have golfed the world, describe it with one word: “unparalleled.”
