Jake and I met at church! He would smile at me as the worship team came down from the stage. I was shy and nervous to talk to him, and eventually got over that fear. BUT I technically slid into his dm’s later!! After over a month of texting, we finally hung out together for the first time!
Jake and I had been talking for about a month, and he was about to have a major back surgery. The night before it, he told me he loved me, and I was nervous to say it back. So I didn’t ): I got a ride up to the hospital the next day and I was freaking out inside. *it’s been too long* *why isn’t he out yet* *is he okay??* In that moment of panic about Jake, I knew that I loved him too. He made everything a little happier, (oh, who am I kidding? A LOT HAPPIER!!) and the thought of losing him gave me horrible anxiety and sadness. When he woke up from the surgery, about 30 seconds after getting the breathing tube removed, he said two wonderful words that made my heart sing... “Where’s Ellie?” We hadn’t been talking very long, and we weren’t a couple, but he asked for ME when he woke up, and that meant more to me than anyone ever could’ve imagined. I fed him ice chips and went home, in love. After a few days, I actually spent the night on the little bench seat of the hospital room. We ordered food and I sat with Jake watching the World Series. We both knew the inevitable was going to happen, but I wanted to joke with him. “If the Red Sox win this game, I’ll be your girlfriend. But if they don’t, you have to keep waiting” He laughed, but shifted nervously throughout the game. Obviously they won ;) We had hospital food and I considered it a date, although Pam (Jake’s mom) did not!
After the surgery was over and Jake was able to sit up again, he took me out to my favorite restaurant. I was careful to plan out what I was getting so it wouldn’t be too expensive! After ordering, Jake had spent about 3x the amount that I had on food, so I decided then and there that I wouldn’t skimp on dinner again with this man! He also scolded me a little for doing that, since he wanted me to be comfortable and get what I wanted. As we sat there eating and laughing, I made fun of his beard (bleh!!) and we had a great time! Even though we had made it official, Jake was still taking me out and being such a gentleman. About 3/4 of the way through the night we were completely bombarded by flies!! There were at least 5 that came to attack us and our food. This definitely made it memorable!
When Jake was going to propose, he was making it so completely obvious that he was about to! He asked for my ring size 👁👄👁 And then told me he had a really huge relationship changing surprise in store! .... are you kidding me 😂 I KNEW he was going to propose, so I got my nails done, I dressed nicely, and we went out to Olive Garden, but then he informed me that the surprise wasn’t ready yet (my ring was being resized lmao) He is SO bad at secrets, I couldn’t help but to laugh. I love him so much. It was adorable, but I was surprisingly nervous! The next week we went back out to where we went for our second first date, and he proposed! He had been sitting on the ring box! However, he was wearing PANTS so I knew it was coming yet again. Of course, all of you know that Jake is a year round shorts guy xD But it happened, and I haven’t seen the video, but it was everything I’ve ever wanted and I love him so much 🥺💛
It turns out that Ellie teasing me with the World Series worked perfectly. I found out that Matt (Ellie’s dad) was a huge lifelong Red Sox fan. So when I looked at the Diamondbacks 2019 season, I thought taking Matt and Ellie to opening day (when the Red Sox were going to be at Chase Field) was the perfect opportunity to ask for Matt’s blessing. During one of the innings, Ellie left to go get concessions. I asked as directly as I could, and here we are today! Marrying into a Red Sox family is an easier pill to swallow than marrying into a Patriots family, but I love them! ;)
